Living Faith 101

We live by the motto Faith alone, Grace alone, Scripture alone.  What does that mean?

  • First, that we are saved by Faith and that that faith is given to us by God.  We cannot earn it and do not deserve it on any level.  As Paul wrote in his letter to the church in Ephesus, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:8-10
  • Grace alone is the reality that we do not deserve the salvation that has been given to us. God is perfect and desires a relationship with his creation.  Because of sin and brokenness, we are no longer in relationship but stand in rebellion, opposed to him and his love.  However, his love for us was so great that he did the only thing he could to restore the broken relationship with his creation.  He sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sin and rebellion so that He might have a renewed relationship with you and me.  We did nothing to earn this.  It was only because of his love for us that we have a chance to experience an eternal relationship with him now and forever.
  • Scripture Alone is the source and norm for our understanding of who God is and who we are.  We see in scripture that we are sinners in need of a savior and from the very beginning, God was unfolding his plan to redeem us and restore us.  We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that we submit to what it says rather than twisting what it says to fit our reason or culture today.

If you believe these to be true (even if you don’t fully understand them), be assured that God has already done a great work in you.  It is only by faith that these things are understood by man.
